The Samaritan Center located at 380
S. Main St. Elmira, NY is an emergency services program
offering donated food and clothing assistance and prescription
drug assistance at low or no cost when ever possible.
In 2004 the Samaritan Center provided on-going emergency
food and clothing assistance to over 18, 000 (duplicated)
households in Chemung County. Catholic Charities and
the Samaritan Center serve all faiths and provide referral
services to a board array of human service providers
in Chemung County.
In addition to food and clothing the
Samaritan Center’s Prescription Drug Assistance
Program is offered free. The center is not an outpatient
clinic and will not provide medical care or advice.
Our goal is to minimize the burden and expense of prescription
drug needs for individuals and families whenever possible.
Our Clothing Closet

offers gently used clothing and accessories to teenagers
and adults. This includes clothing for job interviews,
specialized uniforms for temporary employment agencies
and clothing appropriate for school.

and blood sugar screenings, health and nutritional awareness
information and a confidential setting in which to discuss
health related problems with a nurse.
Prescription Assistance
- The Prescription Assistance Program provides low-income

works with Medicaid to facilitate enrollment of our
clients and we continue to support them during the process.
We also work closely with local physicians, area hospitals
and pharmacies to provide needed medications.
